Australia has been a whirlwind. The past four weeks have been full of fashion events & chaos, starting with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Burberry Aviator launch and Fashion Weekend Sydney.... All produced by the amazing LARA INC. So needless to say, I've been busy. Here are some glimpses of what I've been up to the past two weeks of my trip.
The music in the video is 'Hold On' by Alabama Shakes - One of my new favorite bands, whom I just cannot seem to get enough of. Cannot wait to see them live at SF Outside Lands. Hear more here.
Met my adorable friend, Chloe, for coffees, brunch and catch ups Saturday morning before her flight back to Melbourne. I cannot believe we met three years ago at our first fashion week. Looking adorable as ever, I had to get a photo of Chloe's outfit to post in aid of my 'Australians have style' argument.
It was going to take something big and exciting to wake me up from my blogging coma - If not flying back to Australia to work on a few fashion events, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia being one of them, then what?
San Francisco, my new home of the past nine months, has been absolutely fantastic. I have a fun job, wonderful friends, I'm taking up drums to play in a band with close girl friends (!!!), and all is great... But there is nothing like coming 'home' to Australia. First off, my love affair with Australia has been strong since day one. However, the more time I spend here, the more I adore it. The sun, the culture, the people (specifically my friends), and... the fashion. Before visiting, or living, here I never assumed Australia to be one of the front runners in fashion. I was embarrasingly mistaken. Simply driving down the road you pass people on the way to work, to lunch, out for the night, in trendy (not in an obnoxious way) and laid back (not in a lazy way) outfits. Sheer tops, leather pants, booties with everything (heaven), collared shirts, beach-breezed hair... Perfection. Maybe because all of the current trends in Oz are right up my alley, but I litterally couldn't love the street style here more. A goal whilst I'm here is to take some photos to be able to show my friends and readers from the states just what I mean. So stay tuned, I'll get some of those up after fashion week.
In the mean time, follow my twitter and instagram for instantaneous updates. My username for both is @DANES7387... And here are some chosen shots from my first week back on the motherland.
On the coat-tails of yesterday's holiday, Valentines Day - I thought I would share this video I stumbled upon the other day. A guy made it for his ex, in order to win her back. I think it embodies the epitome of modern day romance. Think Love Actually (yes, we're thinking of the same scene) mixed with the online media-obsessed generation. I love it so much.
I am sure you have come across the fact that outside of working and seemingly, living in the fashion industry, I too have a passion for music. Which is why searching for a new band that vows to be worth a listen, is the ultimate treasure hunt. Surrounded by cringe-worthy pop and rap that you can only listen to after double digit cocktails, it is refreshing to hear bands who pride themselves in simplicity and raw talent. Several months ago I came across The Head and The Heart and The Lumineers. Both bands have a bohemian feel with a folk edge. I have posted a few videos that will be sure to be the tunes which win you over and turn you into an avid fan. I have had the pleasure of experiencing The Head and The Heart at Treasure Island Music Festival this past October - And to say it was enjoyable would be an understatement. It was literally a highlight of the weekend - whether it was the music I newly loved, the sunset highlighting SF's skyline behind the band, or the giant group hug that formulated in the crowd... It was all an incredible experience. So now, I will need to patiently await for March when The Lumineers will be releasing their new album... Hopefully a tour will follow soon after, until then I'll just have to stick to the boys' EP. The Head and The Heart
